Christmas Luncheon 2007
HE Yvon Roe d'Albert, French Ambassador to Ireland addresses the members and guests |
Mr Alan Dukes, Director General of the Institute for European Affairs, was the guest speaker for the IFCC Luncheon. | The latest in an exciting series of events for members and guests, the 2007 Christmas Luncheon was a fitting and festive end to a successful year for the Chamber. Held in the recently refurbished Old Jameson Distillery in Smithfield, and kindly supported by Irish Distillers, the event was a sell-out with nearly 200 members and guests in attendance.
The President of the Chamber, Mr Philippe Cosson, introduced the Guest of Honour - His Excellency Yvon Roe d'Albert, French Ambassador to Ireland. The Ambassador spoke of his previous roles on behalf of the French State and spoke of his delight in being posted to Ireland, particularly as the latter half of 2008 would bring the Presidency of the EU to France and would mean increased contacts between the French and Irish at very senior level.
Mr Philippe Cosson then introduced the guest speaker for the Luncheon, Mr Alan Dukes. Mr Dukes is currently Director General of the Institute for European Affairs, but has had a long and distinguished career in Irish politics with many roles in Fine Gael and ministerial portfolios in government.
Mr Dukes spoke of the subject of 'Anecdotes and Personal Insights into my Life in Politics' and gave the audience many colourful insights into the political relationships between French and Irish politicians over the many years that he has been in politics. He also spoke of the political activity carried out by both governments over many years to enhance the business relationships between the two countries and spoke of the very positive future for the two countries working together in Europe.
A very extensive series of prizes in a 'Monster Raffle' finished the afternoon's proceedings!
